day 211: double FF

I've been putting this off for too long.

An aspect of social media that is overlooked is when one of your friends dies. Recently, I've encountered the first death of a friend on facebook. Her profile is still active. It's kind of surreal.

Jen worked at my former office before I was hired, initially, I knew her by name. My first meeting with her was at the birth of our friend, Que's, daughter. Jen was a dear and genuine soul, always smiling and generous. On Monday, August 3, 2009, Jen lost her battle with Breast Cancer.

With so much media coverage and awareness about Breast Cancer, I think we forget that it can be a fatal disease. According to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, more than 200,000 American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and nearly 40,000 will die from the disease.

Lately I've been getting email from friends and friends of friends who are participating in philanthropic endurance events, including Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

If you feel like donating to one of their efforts, I'm including them in the following links
Amber Cordova Kass
Tracy Davenport Beattie

Jen's friends also set up an profile with the Stand Up to Cancer
Jeniffer Kim

Even in this crazy economy, I realize that there is more to this life than having a job. If you can donate please do. In that respect, this shared life on facebook and other social media has a purpose even in death.
